Captain Troy has been fishing since 1993 in the Crystal River and in Key West, and moved to Destin 8 years ago, where he started his charter business.
He loves taking guests out on the water and seeing their happy faces as they reel in their catch in excitement. Capt Troy and his crew love to take children out on the boat and teach them about different species and fishing techniques, and he says that children are the best learners as they take the information provided and apply it immediately.
His personal biggest catch was a 720 lbs Bluefin Tuna caught off of Islamorada.
The boat is a luxurious 52 foot Hatteras convertible sport fishing boat, which was originally built in 1984 and restored in 2013. It is powered by two 740 HP Detroit 8V92 engines. The boat has a bedroom, two bathrooms, two showers, leather couches, a 46 inch satellite tv, as well as 3 air conditioners and a full Kitchen with an ice maker. It also has a GPS, a radar, a VHF radio for communication with the USCG, a fishfinder to locate the best fishing spots full of fish waiting to bite. You will have a peace of mind knowing it comes with all the safety equipment including life jackets, EPIRB, flares, a life raft, fire extinguishers and a CPR trained crew.
Captain Troy and his team are absolutely amazing! Over the years we have been on a few charter fishing trips but none like the charter with Reel Chill. We were extremely pampered.....from start to finish. The boat and the facilities on board are super nice (they have an air conditioned cabin for those that want to really chill).
We caught fish on the way out to Captain Troys bottom fishing spot and it was non-stop fishing upon arrival for bottom fishing.

What a thrill to spend some time fishing with Capt. Troy! The boat is beautiful and very comfortable, Captain is very knowledgable and family orientated. We were in good hands with him and had the pleasure of having his wife assisting us on board. We look forward to our return trip!
I suffer from motion sickness, and was scared to book a charter. Captain Birchfield assured me that with the new Sea Keeper installed on the boat, I wouldn’t have anything to worry about. I booked a charter and NOT ONCE did I feel sickly. I was able to focus on all the amazing fish we were catching. In addition, it was super nice to have a clean restroom to use. The deckhand was amazing and very knowledgeable.
I’m super excited and will be booking with Reel Chill again very soon!

When on a dolphin cruise an it was amazing! Captain Birchfield, Suzanne and first mate, Marcus was wonderful. The best dolphin cruise I’ve been on. This is also an amazing fishing charter boat!�. I highly recommend you will be completely satisfied.
Captain Troy, Suzanne, and Heather were absolutely amazing taking us out on the boat! It was my Fiancé’s and I’s first fishing charter and we will definitely be back! I learned even more about fishing! We caught so many fish and had a blast! The deckhand Marcus was super sweet and made sure we had a great time and stayed catching fish. It was the best day ever! We even got to see several dolphins jumping in our boat wake as we came back in as well so that was icing on the cake for me! I’ve been showing everyone our photos and pictures of our trip! Thank you guys soooo much!
Six of us booked a day in Oct 2019 during the fish rodeo. Captain Troy and Marcus provided an outstanding trip for all of us. Lot's of fish caught including the largest Black Snapper of that day.
