My passion for the outdoors and fishing started through my grandparents and parents. The first trip to Rockport in the late 1960’s inspired me to want to live, hunt, and fish here. In 1997, my young family and I moved here. After moving here, with encouragement from friends and other guides, I started guiding in 2003. I fished the professional redfish tournaments for 6 seasons around the coastal bend. Fishing here for over 40 years has given me the knowledge I need to have the best possible chance at putting clients on the fish. From the most experienced to the first timer, wading, drifting, or anchored in the boat. With bait or artificials, we can get it done. Fishing from Laguna Madre to San Antonio Bay, we will target trout, redfish, or drum, depending on the season and conditions. This includes the Presine Flats in Estes, Aransas Bay, Corpus Bay, Redfish Bay, Carlos Bay, Mesquite Bay, Copano Bay, and surrounding waters. CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY Spend a relaxing afternoon into the evening, drifting the bay waters around Rockport, waiting for the excitement. When the reel starts screaming from the furious run of the shark, the work begins. The fight can last hours, depending on the shark’s size. We mainly catch blacktip and bull sharks. The Blind Squirrel is a 63 foot all purpose built long range fishing machine. She has a beam of over 20 feet, which makes the cockpit huge. She is licensed for over 40 passengers. She was custom built aluminum boat from a David Carambat design. Whether you are doing a long range multi day trip or just a day trip, she has the room and size to make it very comfortable. Size does matter. The cockpit of the Blind Squirrel has four fighting chairs which includes two unlimited offshore marlin chairs and two smaller Rockaway chairs. A rocket launcher that just makes fishing easier whether you are trolling or bottom fishing. The gunwales are filled with rod holders, so no matter where you are there is one right in front of you. In the middle of the cockpit there is a small swimming pool we call a bait well and on the other side is an immense fish box. The Blind Squirrel's large size and wide beam just translates to a boat feeling big all over. She never feels crowded, no matter how many passengers. The starboard side has a 4 foot wide walk up to the bow for easy access for fishing or laying out to enjoy the Key West sun. The bow has a rail all the way around for safety and a sitting area in the center to relax and enjoy the views of Key West. Quite often we put bean bag chairs on the bow so you can relax and enjoy the ride. The cockpit has a day head so you don’t have to go inside and miss any fishing action. The enclosed bridge on the Blind Squirrel is air conditioned and has seating for eight people. The bridge has awesome views of the cockpit and the fishing grounds. All the electronics and controls make the bridge look like something from a sci-fi movie. Garmin fish finder, radar and GPS plotter are just the beginning of the array of electronics to help us find fish. On the aft bridge deck is seating to overlook the cockpit in the shade and comfort. At night time for fishing the Blind Squirrel has over 100,000 lumens of super bright led lights to turn the night into day. The air conditioned raised salon afford a great view of the cockpit in comfort. Seating in the salon features a double sided dinette which is a great place to lounge and watch TV. Or a great place to sit for a meal and relax. On the starboard side of the salon is a long bench for additional seating. Forward of the dinette is a fully equipped galley with a refrigerator, range top, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. The galley has all the necessities for cooking meals at sea and a double sink for easy cleanup. We generally like to keep the salon pretty chilly. The stairs in the salon lead down to four bunk rooms below. There are ten bunks, three rooms and two full bathrooms with showers. The crew has their quarters with their own bunks and bathroom. No saltwater species is safe from the ‘Cajun Made’ whether it be tuna, marlin, wahoo, dorado, shark, cobia, amberjack, mangrove, red snapper, triggerfish , grouper, speckled trout, redfish, pompano, king mackerel, swordfish and more! trips consist of inshore live and artificial, shallow and deep dropping, day/night swordfishing, day/night live and artificial bluewater, live bait mangrove, sight casting cobia, flyfishing, big and small game trolling. I look forward to sharing my passion with others for fishing and making their trip an experience they will never forget! " Overnight canyon trips are the most extreme offshore trips you can do. We head out around noon and return between 8-10 am the next morning. We shallow and deep drop bottom fish and swordfish, live bait and artificial troll, sight cast top water and chunk for tuna. Extended day bluewater trips consist of leaving out at 5 am catching live bait and heading to Green Canyon floaters. Once in the canyon we live bait, sight cast and artificial troll the semi-submersibles (floaters), grass lines and beds, and platforms for tuna, marlin, dolphin, and wahoo. Day & Night Swordfishing Trips We are lucky to have the sword fishery here out of Louisiana that we do! Book a day or nighttime sword trip with us and you won’t regret it. Choose to reel your sword in by regular hand crank or electric. This is by far the most extreme fish you will do battle with and great table fair to boot!
